Vidya Iyer who is globally famous by her stage name Vidya vox is a Youtuber and a Singer. She was born in Chennai, India but moved to USA with family when she was 8 years old. She learned Carnatic music when she was a little girl, she had famous gurus including D.K. Nagarajan, brother of the late D.K.Pattmal. She also learned Hindustani classical. After completing course Psychology she wanted to study medicine but decided to pursue her zeal for music and started perusing music as her career.
She usually works with the band of Shankar Tucker. Shankar Tucker is a music composer and rose to fame after starting a Youtube channel called "The Shrutibox" where the songs were composed, recorded and performed by himself.She has performed in many countries which includes India, Mauritius, Dubai, Hong and the US. She has also performed shows in many venues around the globe, including the White House, National Center for the Performing Arts in Mumbai and Webster Hall. She started her Youtube channel in April 2015 and her videos have been viewed more than 300 million times. She has more than 3.5 Million subscribers.
Her famous mashup was a Closer+Kabira, Closer is a song by Chainsmokers and Kabira is a song from Hindi movie Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani. The mashup grabbed the attention of many people and got around 55 million views in 7 months. Her another famous mashup was Lean on by Major Lazer and Jind Mahi for which she collaborated with different musicians namely Ricky Jatt, Raashi Kulkarni and Roginder Momi.
She released Kuttanadan Punjayile, a famous Kerala boat song mashed up with an English song which was written by her and Shankar Tucker, it was shot on Kerala with Mohiniyattam performance. Her sister Vandana Iyer is also a singer and Vidya and Vandana have also collaborated on several songs.
